Yeah, I think we are slowly and steadily loosing our Indian culture to the West. The culprit, I think it is the MOVIES.

Globalisation will sooner or later take its toll and the losing of indigenous culture is one of its after effects. India is no exception. globalisation has lead to the loss of Indian ethos and it would be unfair to blame it on the entertainment sector. today its a matter of choice. if we choose to stick by our culture , then we will never lose it. after all we ought to be proud of the cultural heritage that could date back around 300 BC.

Well.. what exactly do we mean by Culture here? can culture be really that fragile that with the globalization it would be disoriented Do we really have to bring up the banners of Culture against any sort of change? Haven t been there hundreds of changes already invading our lives, which don t comply to our so called culture. I don t understand one simple thing is accepting the effect of globalization is a threat to our culture But to me its not. aren t these cultures made by adding small changes at a time, slowly and steadily over the centuries. Looks true. So why are we so averse to only certain kind of changes even when they may not be more harmful than many other changes which actually go unnoticed....

Whatever we do wherever we go we carry deep in our heart that we our Indian We carry the culture, deep in heart.. i dont think that accepting culture from other countries can really blemish our culture. What is needed is the feeling that we are Indians

There are Indians who are very proud of their culture and carry with them where ever they go such are the Indians who have migrated to other countries and brought with them the proud heritage of Indian culture. What is sad, is, while these migrated Indians hold fast to the Indian culture in their country of domicile, the Indians in India are slowly loosing their culture to the westerners.

when i singled out globalization i was reminded of Vivekanand s words which I had somewhere, Shall India die? Then, from the world all spirituality will be extinct, all sweet-souled sympathy for religion will be extinct, all ideality will be extinct and in its place will reign the duality of lust and luxury as the male and female deities, with money as its priest, fraud, force, and competition its ceremonies, and human soul its sacrifice. Such a thing can never be. Globalization is a worldwide phenomena and during such conditions the predominant culture would be chosen by the people. with so many Diasporas it is really difficult to stick onto one s own ethos. however India hasn t been affected that grossly. The reasons are many but with such rampant global changes the need of the hour is to take notice of the impending problem.

Are we loosing our culture I feel not hust today since the time of colonization we have started loosing our culture Colonization by the British have resulted into the destruction of local industries and handicrafts. Though foreign interference has helped in eradicating some social evils, it has also affected Indian religious and cultural traditions in many ways. Hindu- Muslim Unity has suffered a great deal.Globalization has caused many Indian to abandon Indian culture and ape the west. Many Indian values have been lost because the yong think of them as useless.

we are on the way on loosing our indian culture... the movies can t inject anything... i mean then about this gay problem, i m in deep dilemma, eventhough its against our culture, but as far as a humanist point of view,we have to adapt with it... culture is human made, widely speaking made by a group of people, made by a society... culture,it can be changed...and it should have to change.for the sake of humanity....

My dear Prasobh Vijayan, fyi, everything in this world is man made and it is made for the benefit of the society to live in peace, harmony, disciplined, respectful, god fearing, religious etc. etc, If we do not have all these man made rules, than we will not be any diffrent from animals. God has given us human the sixth sense inorder for us to think and do the right thing and to know what is good and bad. Animals, as you know cannot think and does not know what is good and bad. They just follow and do what the animal in front of them does. Do we want to be an animal and do what the other person does even though we know it is wrong???

Our culture is so rich and varied that it becomes the duty of every Indian parent to impart values and traditions of our proud culture. Today, due to western influence on India, the young population of India is deprived of our culture. Parents can impart Indian cultural education at home itself. Encourage your child to read books on Indian dances, Indian Classical music, Indian fashion, Indian religions, Indian freedom fighters, temples etc. Most grandparents in Indian homes are known to narrate mythological short stories to children that have moral learning. These mythological serials are also shown on television. Children can learn a lot from these serials rather than watching cartoons or music channels. India also has a lot of variety in weddings as well. Different weddings have different customs and traditions. Take your family to weddings and tell them about the customs that are followed and their significance. As parents, you may not only praise and appreciate Indian culture. Let your child also know about the caste system in India and tribal population and their own customs. Encourage your child to have his/her own opinions. India also has a lot of oral traditions that includes shlokas, bhajans, and mantras. You can teach your children these shlokas with its relevance and the Gods and the Goddesses it refers to. Children love festivals. But most of them are not aware of the significance why the festival is celebrated. Thus while Holi and Diwali is celebrated with colours and crackers respectively, tell your child the reason why these festivals are celebrated and what customs and traditions are followed during these. Cultural education in today s scenario is as important as other subjects that your child studies. Encourage them to study about India and its rich cultures, values and traditions.

I don t blame all Indians, but only those mostly in metros are falling as preys to this western culture. As they get a job in a Western country based office they tend to change their attitude by seeing their colleagues, and that s how it spreads. But that s not the only way, there still a lot of ways in today s modern world.

Priya ji, I think you have some points and I wish you must share with this forum, so that we can help each other. Society is nothing but we, the people. Lets help one another and resolve those illnesses which are spreading becoming hardcore due to our carelessness. If we determine, we can make this body called society again a healthy one. Very eagerly waiting for your ideas. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments Prasob ji, but please remember onething, there is no difference between you and me. We all came from the same source of Divinity. I relish my childhood quotation told to me and would like to share here: QUOTE Few of us will be great enough to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. And in the total of all those acts will be written the history of our generation. UNQUOTE. Let no one be discouraged by the belief there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world s ills, misery, ignorance and violence. It is from numberless, diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a person stands up for an ideal or acts to improve the lot of others, he or she sends a tiny ripple of hope. Crossing each other from a million centres of energy and daring, these ripples can build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.
