Yes, the marriage concept has definitely undergone a change, its no longer the convential method of the Guy going along with his family on a Bride hunt, its the Guys or the Gals who meet decide, live-in and then ask their Parents to meet... Thanks Priya

these days the concept of marriage has changed with the introduction of the Love - arranged marriages. This carry the concept of the couples choosing themselves and the parents give after checking on their child s choice. The love marriages have become much prevalent in this country, but there are still many families who believe in unity of choice. The parents are liberal enough to allow their children to choose their own life partner, but the children too keep the dignity of their parents and ask for their consent before taking the decision of marrying the person of their choice. In this kind of marriage, no mental grudge is seen on the either part of in laws, rather a lovely relation of mutual understanding is developed between the new member of the family and the elders.

Arranged marriage has modified a lot. == EARLIER == - Parents or siblings or relatives can fix the marriages. Those were mostly arranged in relatives or friends or villages, but basically to known families. - Basically marriages were done over the name of forefathers or elders and there status and property. - Both parties in some long chained relation that s why they know about each other families very well, therefore they dont even concern more about groom or bride. They know groom have enough to survive and can run a familiy, even know what he will get after a familiy get sub divided. Also they know the nature and behavior of both bride and groom directly or indirectly. - There were merely a formality of quiz or interview session between bride and groom, and even in some cases that was not necessary. Bride and grooms don t know each other not even seen each other before marriage. - Most marriages were done in limited kilometer area. - Marriages functions were few weeks to a month long. earlier whole village is invited and take part in the functions and make other arrangements - Don t even think of intercaste marriages. - Still they live in joint families. - There were rare case of divorce. == KNOW == - Family status, standard and property is seen first. - Majority of families use media Newspaper, Internet, TV to search for bride and groom. - Education and How much groom can earn, how much he will get after family partition, what are his extra source of income etc. - Interaction or liking of bride and groom become important. - No boundaries over location and even caste. - Quick and short functions to compelete the ceremony. - There are increasing case of divorces. Earlier there were few cases of love marriages, with strong resistance. Its not clear when actually this trend become so popular, but it does have an affect of the films in a few past decades.
