dance costumes are all very colorful. Each dance costume designed for a particular type of dance differ from the other. This is the reason why we find that the costume of Bharatnatyam is different from Odissi and so on

Dance costumes have captured global attention in all the cultural vistas of the world. There are different dance costumes for different dances like bharatnatyam, Odissi etc.

The costumes of the Bharatnatyam dancer are gorgeous. The costume consists of a dhoti for both male and female dancers. It is usually of richly embroidered needlework or shimmering silk or satin. It fits easily above the ankles and is pleated along the legs, which it protects. Over the dhoti, in the middle, is a pleated or frilled cloth hanging from the waist to perhaps the knees. The upper part of the male dancers body remains bare save for a necklace Women wear a tight fitting choli of the same colour and material as the dhoti.

Dance costumes are colourful and attractive. The costumes vary with the dance and region. We can see light coloured costumes as well as very bright with highly ornamented costumes. In mohiniyattam, thiruvathira, margamkali etc only light colours like white, offwhite, cream colors are used.Bright colours are seen in ritual dances also, mostly red, orange green are used.

Hi friends.....nice to see you all after a long time. Indian dance costumes play a vital role in making the dance performances spectacular.Besides making the performers look beautiful, costumes have many more functions. The costumes underline the culture or origins of the dance form. I personally love Odissi dance costume. They are probably the most colorful and perfectly aligned dress in Indian dance costumes.
