Why do people celebrate festivals? Is it for just a tradition or for enjoyment?

festivals!! if i say that we celebrate festivals for religious fervor.. well, then its an overstatement...religiousness is definitely there but to me festival is somewhat a break from the mundane realities of daily chores..what best can illustrate the feel, the very pulse of "living life to the brim" than that of the pulsating shimer of festivals which combiles religiousness and bliss so very eloquently

i think tradition and enjoyment both are there in Indian festivals. Another very important factor i feel that often the verve of festivity transcends all communal feelings. Perhaps this is the reason we find the Hindus celebrating the Christmas and again the Muslims celebrating the Durga Puja. The very concept of secularism of Indian religion makes Indian festivals all the more enjoyable.
