thge line of difference between geet and ghazal is very delicate. The *ghazal* is a classical form of Urdu poetry. It has some rules of rhyming where form , metre and couplet contribute to it. Love is the main theme. It may be Love for any earthly thing or love for God. *Geet* broadly means song. Popular themes are dealt in a melodious way in a Geet. Geet is more melodic and less restrictive.

I think the word Ghazal means a type of Persian and Iranian poetry. This an old form to describes the romantic ballad often sung in India and Pakistan. The classical music traditions of Iran and India both feature complex scales that demand a lifetime of study. -Bilal --HiPakistan
