the history of kathak dance can be traced back to the ancient era where this dance form was usually performed at the temples teamed with the recitations of the "Kathaks" who used to recite stories from the Hindu mythology. The name of this dance form "Kathak " has also been derived from the "Kathaks". It was much later , when kathak was introduced as a particular form of entertainment in the courts of the Hindu Rajas this art form stood apart as a "secular art " of India.

yes .. it was originated from the stories of Kathikas.. but much later it gained the shape .. you know after the introduction of various gharanas .. like Jaipur, Lucknow and Banaras. the Lucknow gharana reverberates the romantic feeling of kathak dance amidst graceful movements...The typical artform which was once introduced by the Brahmin (Kathikas)priests who used gesture and mime for the dramatic effect in their story .. it was much later with the arrival of the Mughals , kathak became a stylized art form.
