Natya shastra and Aristotle s poetics has a deep connection. Can anyone tell me what are the eight principal rasas that dominate natya?

Natya Shastra a treatise of dance by Bharat Muni in 2nd century B.C. throws ample light on various aspects of dancing. According to this text Brahma is the father of drama. It was a means of entertainment of deities. The eight Rasas are Hasya, Sringara, Karuna, Veera, Raudra, Beebhatsa, Bhayanaka and Adbhuta. The art of dancing developed from the extract of four vedas. First of all Bharat Muni discovered that some dances can be performed only by women. Check out Abhinay Darpan composed by Nandikeshwar it is another important treatise on the art of dancing.

thanks for the post and thanks for the answers also. However i would like to add that in Indian performing art like theatre RASA is an emotion inspired in the audience by the performer. Rasas are created by Bhavas. Whatever Gaurav has said i agree to that. Natyasatra describes only eight rasas. The ninth rasa, Santham or tranquil, was suggested by Abhinavagupta, the great poet, thinker and dramatist on the grounds that actors may need this expression occasionally in their performances.
