Pattachitra is a folk art of ommense antiquity. raw silk as the canvas and natural ingredients unified with the finesse of the artist finally results into that Pattachitra which not only stuns the tourists but also enhances the heritage of India. Conch shell, fum of the kaitha fruit are used to create the colors like white. Hingulai, a typical kind of red stone is also used to depict the color red. Kaitha Bilwa fruit is used to make the black color. Blue is also wide used by the chitrakar and the stone named Rajabarta is used to derive that indigo color.

i was recently reading an article where i also came to know that the folk paintings from Orissa "patachitra" uses bold lines and strong colors and mainly covers themes from Indian mythology. Patachitra are largely painted in a veritable series like leelas of Krishna, dashavatara etc. Thought of sharing this here .....
