No festival in India is complete without a feast, and the Hindu temple provides feasts during the temple festivals. The attendees spend all day at the temple, enjoying themselves. Temple officials hold special worship and prayer times for the festivals. The temple festivals are celebrated in commemoration of some legend of the temple deity.
A temple festival is concluded with a spectacular fire works display, which is held in the wee hours of the day. The fireworks are presented in innovative patterns and varieties, which make spectators, go into raptures. This famous and mighty exhibit of the magnificent display of fireworks adds to the popularity of the temple festival. http://www.indianetzone.com/8/temple_festivals.htm know more

Vinayagar Chaturthi - Celebrating as the sign of the birthday of Lord Ganesh (Elephant Headed Hindu God) who is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The purpose of birth of Lord Ganesh is to destroy the devil “Gajamugasuran”. Goddess Parvati created the Lord Ganesh with her sweat and energy along with the soil and sandal in order to guard her when she takes bath. Trying to guard his mother`s bath, Lord Ganesh was beheaded by Lord Shiva who later was persuaded by Parvati to revive him. Finally Lord Shiva promised always the first pooja will be performed to Lord Ganesh before any auspicious things to be done.
