During weddings, Mehndi is part of the Solah Shringar ritual. Traditionally it is said that there are sixteen adornments for the bride. The reddish colour of the henna is considered auspicious for the bride. Alongwith her red coloured attires, the colour of henna also refer to fertility-related qualities. Hence it is said that the deeper the colour of mehndi the stronger will be the bond between the married couple. In this way, mehndi marks the rite of passage of marriage in a girl s life and her initiation into womanhood.
