The Indian team selection meeting in Baroda on Monday presented a fascinating story. Seventeen players were picked for the two-match Test series in South Africa. Ambati Rayudu was one of those. For a player who lost his youth in the rebel ICL the turnaround was complete when he was chosen to be a part of India s Test and ODI squads. The meeting also served the story of a comeback. Pace bowlers are not known to enjoy a second wind at 35 years of age. But Zaheer Khan has been recalled to the Test squad after almost a year and now has the challenge to justify his selection. Rayudu first. Leading up to the selection meeting his name was rarely mentioned as all talks revolved around the re-selection of Gautam Gambhir a man who hasn t played Test cricket for India since he was dropped from his role as opener following England s Test tour of India last year. Apart from Gambhir Suresh Raina last Test September 2012 too seemed to be a candidate for a call-up if the sources in the BCCI were to be believed.
