Do pre-wedding rituals form a part of all types of marriages or they are mostly restricted to Hindi marriages only?

I think pre-wedding rituals are observed in every religion.

Pre-wedding rituals are fun to participate. These rituals bring all the family members together where there is happiness and laughter. All of the rituals have got some significance that many of us do not know.

You are right, Poonam. For example, in our Bengali culture, we organize `Gaye holud` before the wedding. It is believed that it originates from the Hindu wedding religious ceremony where Lord Shiva and his bride Sati were applied with holud (turmeric) to cool the couple and make them look more radiant. Later this custom was adopted by the Hindu people.

I think this ceremony is also observed by other communities of India like Assamese, Marwari, Gujarati etc.

`Sangeet` is also a part of pre-wedding ceremony. This is the part where the whole family comes under one roof to bless the bride and enjoy the occasion with traditional songs and dance. It is one of the most enjoyable ceremonies before the wedding and is exclusively for women.
