India`s culture in south east Asia was developed in a manner in strong contrast with the later European colonization. Merchants sailed to river settlements for trade without ambitions of exploitation. Organized trading practices attracted local peoples who slowly imitated language, faith and methods of civic life. Although the word Nagara was applied to north Indian temples in Asia it became a common term for national order. Could you comment on what the word means? I am in Australia which also has the nagara in the sense of traditional law and the homeland.

In my opinion Nagara refers to a town or city but I don`t know its etymology.

yes that is so. I m asking about any hints that nagara temples in India could become more complex. For example the vataka of India expanded into the Wat system as at Angkor Wat in Cambodia. And also nagara became nokhor / Angkor. In another example the word city became The City of London UK and meaning the financial and government machine that represents national strength. The word nagara describes a special and dynamic function of differing developments in several Asian countries. It was like concepts of republic constitution or GDP today. It brought Indian systems to Australia possibly 300-500 years ago and maybe starting well before then.
