Have you heard about the festival Vishu? There is an interesting fact about this festival. During this festival an important ritual is organized called Vishukkani which means `the first thing seen on the day of Vishu after waking up` . Do you guys know how this ritual is followed?

Dear Shruti, Yes. Vishu Kani is a festival celebrated by most of the people in Kerala and Mangalore Udupi areas of Karnataka i.e. mainly by the people of west coast. On the eve of Vishu Sankramana Sankranti in front of God, we spread a beautiful cloth. On it, we place all possible fruits, vegetables and other farm products. In the foot of God a mirror is placed. Then we go to sleep. Early morning, the next big day of Vishu Sankramana as soon as one gets up he / she will walk to Puja room with closed eyes and prostrate and pray. Then open eyes and see own face in the mirror followed by all the items on the carpet. Everyone will do the same thing. Everyone will then seek Ashirwad from every elder in the family. Later in the day sweets etc will be cooked and consumed. Customs may vary from place to place. Please note that Vishu is celebrated by people who follow Souramana or Solar calendar. But I am not sure if it is celebrated in the same fashion in Tamil Nadu who also follow solar calendar.
