Bengalis take pride in being the intellectual community of India. The rituals of their rich and warm weddings bring out their intellectual dignity. A traditional Bengali style wedding entails a series of elaborate and colourful rituals which are not only enjoyable but are of great significance in conjugal life. Can anybody say what are the rituals in a typical Bengali wedding?

There are so many rituals in a Hindu marriage act like pre-wedding, wedding and post-wedding rituals. Writi, tell me what information do you actually want to know?

Amrita, it would be great if you provide information individually. Like, firstly tell me about the pre-wedding rituals.

`Aiburobhaat` is done the day before the wedding which is followed by `Mehendi`. Well this part is not mandatory in the Bengali marriage but it has become a trend. On the next day i.e. the wedding day is full of rituals. It starts with `Dodhi Mangal` followed by `Vriddhi Puja`, `Gae Holud`, `Sankha Porano` and `Ashirwad`. These are the pre-wedding rituals of a Bengali marriage as far as I know.

What is `Aiburobhaat`? I know that bhaat means rice in bengali, but what is this ritual related to rice?

There are many sub-divisions in bengalis. Bengalis of different regions or districts have different rituals in their marriage. The rituals totally depend on the families. So it would be easier to define if you be a little bit specific Writi.
