Folk theatre in India has been very popular aspect of the entertainment culture. The Sanskrit Folk Theatre Koodiyattam is the only surviving specimen of Sanskrit theatre. India is one of the richest countries in the world to have myriad forms of folk theatre and visual arts. Jatra is a popular folk-theatre form of Bengali theatre spread throughout most of Bengali speaking areas of the Indian subcontinent, including Bangladesh and Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Orissa and Tripura.
