Diwali is knocking on our doors and we re already engaged in its preparations. Fire crackers in Diwali are considered an indispensable enjoyable facet of the festive celebrations even today by many. However the pollution control authorities have put restrictions in their usage and the people too to an extent have become aware of the harm they cause to our environment. What are the restrictions in usage of crackers these days and do the people really abide by those?

The Supreme Court has banned the use of sound-emitting crackers between 10pm and 6am during Diwali.

Burning crackers are merely burning your own money. Festivals can be celebrated in different ways but not by polluting our environment. At the end of the day we are the ones who will suffer.

Diwali is the festival of lights and not noise. Its the lights that we should light on this auspicious occasion as much as in others lives as at our homes and not crackers. I feel that crackers should be lit in a controlled manner restricted to very light fireworks that don`t produce uncomfortable sound yet are fun to light and watch. Apart from these, crackers act as risk factors of possible fire and injuries to people and homes.
