The Pallava kings were the great patrons of Sanskrit language and literature. Kanchi was the capital of the Pallavas. It was a centre of Sanskrit studies. The poet Bharavi, the author of Kiratarjuniyam was the court poet of Pallava King Singhabahu or Singhavishnu. Another Sanskrit scholar Dandin was the greatest litterateur of that period.
