Devi Durga is greatly revered in the eastern part of India. She is believed to be the destroyer of evil in the form of Demons. I want to know the origin of Devi Durga and her different forms in which she is also worshipped.

According to Vedic scriptures Goddess Durga is a symbol of power. She is worshipped in nine different forms and is therefore termed Nava-Durga. Each of the nine manifestation of Durga is worshipped with full devotion during Navratri.

Shailaputri is the Goddess of Inspiration, Brahmacharini is the Goddess of Sacred Study, Chandraghanta is the Goddess of the Delight of Practice, Kushmanda is the Goddess of Purifying Austerity, Skandamata is the Goddess who Nurtures Divinity, Katyayini is the One Who is Ever Pure, Kaalratri is the Goddess of the Dark Night of Overcoming Egotism, Mahagauri is the Goddess of the Great Radiant Light and Siddhidhatri is the Goddess who Grants Perfection.
