Last year I visited Hemis monastery and was astonished by its rich architecture and unique collections. It is located inside a gorge and many might not be aware of the fact that it is the Lama`s training centre for all Royal monasteries. Is there anyone who visited this monastery and has a vivid knowledge of its collection and history? Please share here.

Though the monastery already existed in the 11th century it was re-established by Lama Tagstang Raspa during the reign of Sengge Namgyal, the celebrated ruler of Ladakh in 1672.
