Funerals are a solemn affair. And it should be treated as such as someone or some people has lost a loved one. But in Tamil movies I always note that except for the grieving family members the others drink and dance as though it is a happy occasion. Is this the tradition in India as a whole?

This is not true. I am a south indian and in my caste this type of ritual is never performed. And i don`t think this even happens in Tamil families.

There is wide consistency in the Hindu rites and their procedures differ from place to place. It also depends on the caste and the status of the deceased person.

Maniam PS, I think you have got it wrong. No such religion in India celebrates death.

Drishti, please read the question carefully. I am not talking about religion. I am talking about practice. Please go and view any Tamil film where there is a funeral scene.

Manian PS, it`s neither about religion and nor about any caste. There is no such practice in our nation. Please confirm yourself first. If you have seen it on any Tamil movie, there might have been some sequence which you are not able to understand it.

Shreya, first go and see as many Tamil films with the funeral scene as you possibly can and then come back and give me an answer. For your information I am a blue blooded Tamilian and understand Tamil language and culture well. Please get your facts right before you attempt to answer my question.
