There are many festivals in India that are celebrated in a way that harms nature. For instance every year approximately 40,000 Ganesha idols are submerged in the Western coast of India that creates thousand metric tonnes of garbage in the ocean. The smoke and noise from fire crackers during Diwali, use of chemical colours during Holi are all hazardous to nature. Don`t you think we all should stand up for a change towards better healthier future?

The highly contaminated Ganga is now saturated with litres of paint, bulks of plaster of Paris, toxic synthetic materials and non-biodegradable wastes like plastic, flowers plunged into the holy river. The materials such as plaster of Paris used in making idols, Paints used for decorating the idols loaded with high levels of mercury and lead, all add to the water pollution. This increases the toxin levels of water bodies after immersion days. These toxins eventually enter the food chain after affecting the marine ecosystem and its biodiversity.

Loudspeakers, fire crackers and loud musical instruments appear to be one of the biggest culprits of noise pollution during festivities. Noise pollution brings health issues in adults like sleep disturbance, hypertension, tinnitus and hearing loss.

The government has also set a limit for the noise pollution but there is hardly anyone who cares about this. People are concerned about their enjoyment but not their future. They don`t even understand what harm they are doing to the environment where they are living.
