Biosphere reserves are areas of terrestrial and coastal ecosystems which promote the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use. How many Biosphere Reserves are there in India? What are the initiatives of the Indian Government in supporting and maintaining these Biosphere reserves?

Presently, there are 18 notified biosphere reserves in India.

The Government of India has established about 18 different Biosphere Reserves in the country. Of these 10 are part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves set up under the auspices of the UNESCO Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
