Bhaichung Bhutiya- the most talked about star, as far as Indian football is concerned. But, the matter of fact is Bhaichung has been in the circuit for long and sooner or later, his age and fitness will become an obstacle to carry his career forward further. India should get a proper replacement of a talent like his.Whom do you all think Bhaichung s replacement can be, who can become the brand ambassador of Indian Football?

Well Avishek, this is really a tough question to answer. There is really a great dearth of talent in Indian football in the recent years. Another unfortunate fact is that even if there is a talent in somewhere in the country, no body get to know of the talent for a very weak football infrastructure. However, if you talk about the players playing for Indian national football team at the moment, I think Sunil Chettri has the potentiality to not actually replace, but become a star like Baichung Bhutia. However, one should also keep it in mind that Baichung Bhutia is a talent that cannot be replaced at all. Let s hope that he play for another 2-3 years for India, though it is quite natural that his fitness level will deteriorate with age.

I think we should not project just one person as the brand ambassador of Indian football. Now, time has come when India requires a powerful football team including footballers like Sunil Chetri, Subrata Pal, Gouramangi Singh, etc. We need a powerful team and not a single strong torch bearer. Even Bhutia alone can do nothing. Football is played in almost all schools in India. Football is also said to be the top sport in the states of Goa, Kerala, Manipur, West Bengal, Mizoram and Sikkim. So, young talents should come out of these states. A little encouragement is required to boost the hidden talents. Kolkata formerly Calcutta , in the state of West Bengal, is considered to be the home of Indian football. The city contains the two most famous Indian teams East Bengal Club and Mohun Bagan AC. These teams are needed to strengthen and make a team that can represent the country internationally and make it to the World Cup soon. The national football team was also quite successful until the 1970s, qualifying for Olympic tournaments and the FIFA World Cup. The team qualified for the 1950 World Cup finals in Brazil, but could not appear as they still played in their bare feet at that time. So, it is the time to boost all the talented footballers of India.
