Kamal Hassan is an Indian film actor and director. He is one among the leading method actors of Indian cinema. Winner of several Indian film awards, including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards, Kamal Hassan has acquired the distinction of being the actor with maximum number of films on behalf of India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Kamal Hassan has started his own film production company, Rajkamal International and produced several of his films. He is also known to train few of the selected upcoming artists in his way of acting methodology. According to Kamal Hassan acting is not at all inborn rather it is a craft that one has to constantly work on. The actor has to read and research the character and his ambience. Practice eventually sharpens this skill. Kamal Hassan often used real life situations and real people to understand his role and bring about credibility to the audience. In Iru Nilavugal, he played double roles-of a doctor and a layman. There were hardly any differences in the basic look and feel of these two characters. The director of the film once said in an interview that Kamal Hassan suggested giving one of the characters a few distinctive mannerisms. This would help differentiate between the two roles. Kamal Hassan noticed that the director had a slight hunch and thus made the doctor a hunchback in the film. He once said that the three most important ingredients that make an actor are nadai walk , udai costume and bhavanai expression . It is seen that Kamal s genius lies in the fact that he takes efforts to make sure that the above three are different in every film he acts in.

Kamal Haasan born November 7, 1954 in Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu, India is an Indian film actor, script writer, and filmmaker, considered one of the leading method actors of Indian cinema. Hassan is known for winning several Indian film awards, including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards, and has the distinction of being the actor with the most number of films submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In addition to acting and directing, he is a screenwriter, lyricist, playback singer and choreographer. His film production company, Rajkamal International, has produced several of his films. Kamal Haasan s breakthrough into lead acting came with his role in the 1975 drama, Apoorva Raagangal, in which he played a rebellious youth in love with an older woman. He secured his first Indian National Film Award for his portrayal of a guileless school teacher who tends a child-like amnesiac in 1982 s Moondram Pirai. He was particularly noted for his performance in Mani Ratnam s Godfatheresque Nayagan 1987 , which was ranked by Time magazine as one of the best films of all-time. Kamal Haasan made his film debut as a 6-year-old child artiste, in the 1960 film, Kalathur Kannamma, directed by A. Bhimsingh. He was cast along with the veteran Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan in the film, which won him the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. He acted as a child actor in five other Tamil films in the subsequent few years co-starring with popular actors at the era, including Sivaji Ganesan and M. G. Ramachandran. Following a nine year hiatus from films, to concentrate on his education, Haasan returned with a series of low budget films in 1972, in all of which he played supporting roles to more established actors. These films included roles in Arangetram and Sollathaan Ninaikkiren, both co-starring Sivakumar. His final supporting role before establishing himself as a lead actor was in Naan Avanillai, which became a trendsetter for some of Haasan s later ventures.

Dasavathaaram is a 2008 Tamil language Indian feature film directed by K. S. Ravikumar, who features alongside actor Kamal Haasan for the fourth time. In the film, Kamal Haasan appears in ten different roles, breaking the record for an actor s portrayal of the most characters in any film. Asin Thottumkal appears in a dual role and Mallika Sherawat plays a subsidiary role in the film. Dasavathaaram, which had been under production since mid-2005, was produced and primarily distributed by Venu Ravichandran, who made the film with a budget of 60 crore Indian rupees. The soundtrack to the film is composed by Himesh Reshammiya, whilst Devi Sri Prasad composed the background score. Cinematoraphy and editing were conducted by Ravi Varman and Ashmith Kunder respectively, while Michael Westmore was the chief make-up artiste for the film. The film revolves around bringing together the lives of several individuals during the week prior to the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. Primarily, the story revolves around a research scientist who loses a biological weapon of mass destruction in the United States of America. The weapon is also sought by an ex-CIA officer for his own use. Thus begins a cat and mouse chase throughout several countries, as the scientist and the ex-CIA officer vie for the possession of the weapon. The proceedings are affected by several characters and their issues which disrupt the weapon from going to the hands of the ex-CIA officer. The story occurs within a week building up to the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.

Michael Madhana Kamarajan is a 1991 film directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, starring Kamal Haasan and Crazy Mohan. Kamal had distinguished each character with his body language and language lingo for example Michael has a husky voice, Madan an english accent, Kameshwaran speaks Palakad tamil and Raju madras language. The film tells a story of quadruplets. The screenplay is credited to Kamal himself, while the story is by Kadher Kashmiri. It is widely considered to be the best comedy movie in the Tamil film industry. Kamal Haasan s performance as all four quadruplets is top class and he showcases his versatility in a single movie. He has four different types of body language and four different slang terms for the roles. The film was a massive hit and ran for over 120 days in many theatres. It also won Kamal Haasan many accolades and recognition for his versatile acting and comic timing.

Kamal Hassan has started his own film production company, Rajkamal International and produced several of his films. He is also known to train few of the selected upcoming artists in his way of acting methodology. Kamal Hassan never discriminated between the length of roles or the type of roles he did. According to him, acting is an art that requires utmost concentration and dedication. He always desired to be versatile and succeeded with his own efforts. It is seen that Kamal s genius lies in the fact that he takes efforts to make sure that the above three are different in every film he acts in. Kamal Hassan is highly different even when he is playing similar roles. For instance, he played the role of a retarded person in 16 Vayathinile, Swathi Muthayam and Guna. But he played this single role differently in each of the films. Each of the roles played by Kamal Hassan had different mannerisms and a different body language. 16 Vayathinile was more rustic and crude, while his character in Swathi Muthayam seemed to suffer from Down s syndrome. The character in 16 Vayathinile was not really retarded but was seemed like a country bumpkin who was soft in the head. In Guna, Kamal Hassan played the role of a dark, obsessive character, somewhat autistic. Another characteristic of his acting style is that he spoke long sentences and repeated himself constantly.

i agree that Kamal Hassan truly epitomises acting. Kamal Hassan debuted in the film Arangetram 1973 starring Siva Kumar and Prameela. In 1977, he got his first commercial success with 16 Vayathinile with Sridevi and Rajnikant. Kamal Hassan is also called Chameleon Kamal as he has played more variety of roles than any other actor. A ventriloquist in Avargal, a psychopath serial killer of women in Sigappu Rojakkal, a deranged obsessive lover in Guna, a blind violinist in Raja Paarvai and a classical dancer in Saagara Sangamam are few of his various roles. Seven of Kamal Hassan s movies have been sent as India s official entries to the Oscars. Besides his mother tongue Tamil, he has also performed in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam movies. Kamal Hassan s Bollywood debut Ek Duje Ke Liye was one of the biggest grossing films of all time in Indian cinema. In 1990, Kamal Hassan became the recipient of the Padmashri award, the fourth highest recognition given to Indian civilians. In 2005, he launched a new business unit called Raj Kamal Audio.
