A big inland lake in the small village of Veli, the Veli lagoon is linked to the Arabian Sea by a narrow strip of sandbar. Set in the lap of natures verdant beauty, the lagoon provides a tranquil atmosphere and a picturesque getaway from Thiruvananthapuram. Tourists can cruise around on the lagoon in power driven boats, pedal-boats, row boats or in safari launches that are driven by motors. Boat rides, at Veli Lagoon, are reasonable and are available till 6pm. After 6 in the evening, the lagoon is only used by the local fishermen. The Veli lagoon is popular for waters ports like swimming and kayaking. The hovercraft is also fun and exciting. During the boat rides, visitors can see the local fishermen doing their daily work. Other attractions at Veli lagoon include a floating bridge, a cafeteria and a floating restaurant. There is a waterfront park, with sculptures, near the lagoon. This park has a small artificial lake with tub boats for children. Pony rides are available at Veli and the village has an open air theater that hosts cultural events including the annual arts festival. A trip from Trivandrum to Veli lagoon can be made while touring the surrounding areas of the city. The lagoon, with its placid beauty, attracts a large number of tourists. The village is an excellent opportunity to learn about the various aspect of fishing done at the lagoon and about the local culture of the region. Veli lagoon is a must visit from Thiruvananthapuram.

A short distance from Thiruvananthapuram is the Veli Aakulam lagoon. Water sports, a floating restaurant, an amusement park, speedboats and other facilities make this spot a tourist attraction. The east end of the lake is flanked by two scenic hillocks.

Veli lake is very short distance from the Thiruvananthapuram city.Boating,Floating brigge and aKTDC resturant in the lake is fantastic. The mentionable feature is that the lake and the sea were separated by a narrow strip of land, that we can see there.
