Hi maniam.. what i feel , Saree has its own eminence as a traditional costume but in daily life to wear it and then elbowing at the over crowded public transports is indeed a pain. So i guess we the females keep saree as the right attire for occasions like religious get together or ceremonial get together. Dresses like jeans, trousers etc supports more free movement but i certainly do NOT FEEL that Indian saree is loosing its charm

I just cant agree that the tradition of wearing saree is fading away.. What i want to say here....Women in modern India yake up a number of challenging professions. They are now in sales and marketing medical representatives etc. which demand lots of free movement which saree cant provide. So women are opting for other dresses

In answer to your question Maniam, I want to say that the importance of traditional saree is in no way fading out. It was and will remain the primary costume keeping at par with the Indian culture, especially Bengali norms and values. Keeping in mind the contemporary society and the rising number of Indian women at jobs, it seems that wearing other kinds of dresses like salwar kameez or shirt-pant has become more of a necessity and comfort zone. But, again, during any occassion like weddings or rituals Indian women prefer to wear sarees rather than any other kinds of dresses. Even in many corporate houses, management prefers women wearing professional attire like formal shirt and pant rather than sarees.

I disagree ....the charm of an Indian saree can never fade. As far as Keralite are concerned Sari is the traditional garment. Majority of the housewives wear Sari. There may be a rush of other styles of dresses like skirts or jeans. But in India we can see something uniqueness in dressing with a saree. In India there is great potential for Saree Business. There are different saree collections are available in variety of price ranges. Bridal Saree are the most attractive section.

what i feel ... Not wearing a particular dress has nothing to do with showing disrespect to that dress. there could be a number of reasons behind this.. Saree is such an eminent attire which hardly cab fade its charm to other dresses... I agree with u all that it is just because of sheer necessity to opt for other dresses Indian sarees are kept lovingly at the wardrobes for any grand occassion

though saree is not suitable to everywhere specially at work place ,but no other dress can take place of saree. It has its own place and i don t think saree is loosing its place, in fact it is becoming more stylish.
