The fort was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar in the 15th century. It was in the same palace the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned and later murdered his brother Murad.

There isn`t any concrete proof to estimate exactly when the fort was constructed. However according to a local legend, it was built in 3rd Century by a local king named Suraj Sen.
