In arranged marriages, horoscope of both the bride and groom are referred or studied, why is this so??? Can we discuss the pros and cons of referring to the Brides and Grooms horoscopes before the marriage is fixed.

hello sir.. i personally believe in horoscope matching. i think that the horoscope of a person can tell a lot of things about that persons life about his present condition and his character. Usually it takes years of close relationship with a person to make a good judgement about him, but judging the horoscope can help in knowing the person to some extent Therefore the matching of the horoscopes can be considered as vital for a successful marriage

Dear Abhi, I too believe in horoscope matching simply because I believe that it is the only tool to gauge the compatibility between the bride and groom. Compatibility is vital to make a successful marriages. Arranged marriages after consultation of the horoscopes have most of the time lasted a life time.

hello everybody, what i feel that it is impossible to decide which marriage will last for long. It all depends on the mutual understanding of the couple, trust, love, co-operation, care n time for each other are all a perfect marriage requires. Althoough i personally believe in horoscope matching but just cant hold it as enough reason to make a marriage successful. It only helps in knowing the person better. Making the marriage successful largely depends on the factors which i have already mentioned

i completely agree with you Darshil Sir... And moreover i do not think that matching the horoscope has any logical base to deduce that the couple will live happily ever after... I personally have seen marriage collapsing even after matching the horoscope.. Rather i feel blood group should be matched to ensure a healthy marital life.

It would be interesting to find out the percentage of marriages that has ended in divorce for arranged marriages where horroscope matching has been strictly done against marriages where the horoscope was never consulted. Off-hand, I can assure you that the percentage of marriages where horoscopes were matched will stand out as the longest surviving marriages against those which did not have horoscope matching. For example, look at our parents marriages, didn t they last a life-time

i agree with you Mr. Maniam.. I feel that matching the Kundali has a great significance in marital relationship. It is indeed very scientific also .. as Astrology is a science..the so called modern men claims to be very knowledgeable about the universe and finds it very easy to dismiss astrology as being a credible science. i am not aware whether kundali matching can help in making the m,arital relationship better.. but i cant deny the fact that it is a an elementary base of understanding the person. Perhaps if we were to put more effort into the study of astrology as a science, we may learn much more about the early civilizations of our world. Shakespeare perhaps understood, when he wrote in Hamlet, There are more things on heaven and earth Horatio than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

It is interesting to read so many views. I know people who have been seeing horoscope and reached 35 & even more but are yet to find that one . I feel a successful marriage is falling in love with the same person again and again It is the mutual sense of sacrifice, respect and care devoid of ego which makes a marriage to last. Horoscope may stand 1% in all this. Our parents marriages have lasted not because of horoscope matching but because of their dedication to the family values and tolerance. They have also gone through several ups and downs, yet tolerated, and they have brought us up.

Sorry Meera madam, I beg to differ. Horoscope among others is used to study the compatibility of the intended bride and groom. Marriages that has used this method of compatibility study has stood the test of time. The Horoscope is the only tool that can tell for sure whether the bride and groom will be able to live harmoniously and with the dedication. Look around you and see for yourself the number of failed LOVE marriages where the Horoscope was not consulted.

Hello everybody, I surely disagree with Maniam here. As Maniam quotes that a number of love marriages fail as the horoscope is not consulted, I would like to correct you here as the dates for the marriage are decided after consulting the astrologer even in case of love marriages by most of the couples. I think that arranged marriages have a higher probability of success due to the parental pressure as the question of the family members dignity arises. It seems that Maniam is a staunch believer of astrology, but it is a science that is under study and the readings are merely predictions and there is no certainity of them being true. Yes, they do help as the readings help us get rid of our inhibitions psychologically.

Dear Grasshopper, my arguement is that the horroscope is used to check the compatibility between the bride and groom, and wherever, such check has been made and the compatibility confirmed, the marriage had lasted a life time. Consulting astrologer for auspicious date of marriage has got nothing to do with compatibility.

Getting married and sustaining marriage though interrelated but are two different things. Horoscope is normally taken to be the guiding cue of a personality and it is prepared depending on the time and location of the birth of a child. No one would disagree that the beginning of the development of personality is conditioned by the situation in which one is born. Considering the situation one can almost accurately predict the way a person is going to grow psychophysically. However, with a difference in the circumstances of the later development, one can actualize considerable attitudinal change in oneself. And we know that it is our attitude which matters the most in our life. Does the matching of horoscope discount a significant factor, namely, the situational change, in the development of our personality? Is the belief in horoscope a belief in fatalism? Is every event of our life fixed once for all with the event of birth? Perhaps we will have only tentative belief in horoscopic matching if we do not accept that the way we are going to grow in our life is predetermined by the spatiotemporal circumstances of our birth-event. But, it is quite perplexing that we cannot improve on our situation. With the matching of horoscope we can confidently proceed to marry. But, it is hard to believe that such matching is going to sustain our marriage anyway. As the story goes, there was a perfect match in the horoscopes of Lord Ram and mother Sita. But, how many of us consider their marriage life a successful one? An astrologer would have an answer. But should we accept his justification given the amount of failed astrological predictions? Before the declaration of Lok Sabha election results I have heard an astrologer predicting on TV that the next prime minister will not have mustache and beard, but here is a full stock...
