Ghee plays a vital role in the lives of Hindus. It is not only consumed as a nutritious food or used for cooking purposes but it is also an important ingredient in Hindu rituals. Is the Ghee mentioned anywhere in the Purans or Vedas.

The usage of cows ghee has been mentioned in Hindu mythology. Prajapati, the lord of creatures created ghee by rubbing or churning his hands together and then poured it into fire to engender his progeny. In the vedic rituals also ghee is poured into fire and this is the reason why even today ghee is poured into fire.
