In Indian naturopathy fasting is the process of purification and is regarded as an effective and quick method of cure. Fating if done properly aids in regenerating the blood cells as well as the also to repair other various tissues of the body. The duration of the fast, however, depends upon the age of the patient, the nature of the disease and the amount and type of drugs previously used. It is therefore advisable to consult a naturopathist prior starting the fasting therapy

Fasting is the process of purification which aids in correcting the faults of improper diet. Juice fasting is the safest and the most effective method of fasting. It supports the body nutritionally and also helps in cleansing while producing a better detoxification and quicker recovery. After the raw juice therapy, the return to normal balanced diet should be gradual, and in stages.

Fasting refers to complete abstinence from food for a particular period of time. This is nature s oldest, most effective and yet least expensive method of treating diseases, recognized as the achievement of natural healing. i agree with you chetan that fasting is the process of purification. Fasting has a great effect on our spiritual awakening also. Indian naturopathy also recignises fasting as a natural cure to a number of diseases. However, the success of the fast depends largely on how the fast is broken. This is the most significant phase. The right food after a fast is as important and decisive for proper results as the fast itself. The main rules for breaking the fast are not to overeat, eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly and take several days for the gradual change to the normal diet.

Fasting is somehow good for the health like one should keep fast for one day atleast once in a weeks time. It will not only bring the lightness but also purify the body from the toxins.

Hi all .. can anyone tell me the religious significance of fasting also ....

Many people in the world face untimely death owing to over-eating.Hence fasting therapy is needed sometimes to tone up the body. Religion is not devoid of societal need hence the religious significance of Fasting therapy is also immense. In Buddhism, fasting is an initial stage of self-discipline to acquire self-control. Jainism also considers fasting as one of the ways to cleanse the body. In Hinduism there are reference of Brahminical fast. In every religion, there is a system of fasting.

fasting is taking away the one s attention to munching. So where does the attention then go?It is transferred then elsewhere, obviously more into spiritual/mental /psychotic situations. So fasting can yes help spiritually as well

[Moderator Comment : Hello all.. here in this post.. the member has tried to reveal the psychological effect of Fasting. She is saying that as Fasting refers to complete abstinence from food for a particular period hence the need of munching is not there. On a broader sense it is the attention towards food which then fades away and the attention is diverted to spiritual/mental /psychotic situations. So indirectly fasting therapy helps in Spirituality.]

Historical records tell us that fasting has been used for health recovery for thousands of years. Hippocrates, Socrates, and Plato all recommended fasting for health recovery. For much of human history, fasting has been guided by intuition and spiritual purpose. Today, our understanding of human physiology confirms the powerful healing effects of fasting. A fast that is appropriate for your situation will allow for you to experience some or all of the following: More energy Healthier skin Healthier teeth and gums Better quality sleep A clean and healthy cardiovascular system A decrease in anxiety and tension Dramatic reduction or complete elimination of aches and pains in muscles and joints Decrease or elimination of headaches Stabilization of blood pressure Stronger and more efficient digestion Stabilization of bowel movements Loss of excess weight Elimination of stored toxins Improvement with a wide variety of chronic degenerative health conditions, including autoimmune disorders. During a water fast, only water is consumed. During a juice fast, any variety of fruit and vegetable juices are consumed. People detoxify and heal more quickly with a water fast than with a juice fast.
