Correct me if I am wrong. I understand that puppetry was introduced to the world by the Indians. Now, as far as the Puppetry Theatre is concerned, I believe that it is very much alive in places like North Karnataka,
Hello Chetan, Puppetry which was once the only art form or the only form of expression in India has been largely replaced by other art forms. It is indeed an ancient art which is almost at the dying stage. i wont go into detail here .. i wont furnish figures from reports of this dying but i just want to say how many of the young generations are aware of the term Kathputli even

i think that over the years, Puppetry in India has developed into a powerful media of communication. Puppetry offers a real challenge to the imagination and creative ability of the individual and of all art mediums, it is probably the least restricted in its form, design, colour and movement and the least expensive of all animated visual art forms. Though it was considered as a rural art form, nowadays puppetry has been a popular mode of entertainment all across the nation.
