The Siddha form of medical treatment is a Dravidian system of Medicine. This medicine is passed down through families of traditional healers. Believed to have been founded by the Sage Agastya, the word Siddha means achievement and the Siddha method of treatment was developed by 18 Siddhars or saintly teachers. The healing therapy includes various forms of massage using medicinal oil and leaves. Many musculo-skeletal conditions and chronic nerve disorders have been cured by Siddha treatment. Sidha medicine is a part of the Unani medicine.

Sidddha Medicine, as explained by the above members is the oldest medical system in the world. The Siddhars, who developed the medical system, wrote their medical knowledge on palm leaf manuscripts and in the old form of the Sanskrit language. The palm leaf manuscripts which have been handed down by family members are still kept by certain individuals and have not been fully collected by the authorities or medical college dedicated to Siddha medicine. Further, it is said that there are still difficulties in deciphering the old Sanskrit language of the manuscripts and as such, the full knowledge of the ancient medicine is yet to be realised.

Not only that. There were information on use of SIDDHA medicine for the cure of cancer. Because of its tough reactions and assured cure keeping in view the present politics of economics it is informed they don t want this system to go ahead of the popular systems. If some one has time and patience can try to to view some episodes of Tamil TV serial Yamirukka Bayam Yenn where they have delved deep in to this subject however it remains inconclusive.
