Om Bhur Bhuva Suvah Tat Savithur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi Dhiyo Yonah Prachodayat - this is the Gayatri Mantra. Gayatri Mantra begins from the word aum. The significance of Aum in this Gayatri Mantra has been explained in Mandukyopanishad. There are innumerable interpretations of Gayatri Mantra. One of the earliest translations of Gayatri Mantra reveals its true essence. Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke translates Gayatri Mantra like this - Earth, Sky, Heaven. Let us meditate on these, and on the most excellent light and power of that generous, sportive, and resplendent sun, praying that it may guide our intellects.

The Ancient Rishis who were the great Gurus have arranged the Gayatri mantra in such a way that chanting this Maha mantra will provide immense energy. It is believed that the syllables of the mantra positively affect all the energy centers also known as chakras in the human body. Hence proper pronunciation of the mantra is required to correctly invoke the energy centers of our body. Chanting of Gayatri mantra helps to illuminate our intellect and remove all the obstacles on our path and helps in our spiritual growth and development.

My Gurudev has told this.. For all my friends i am writing this here.. The simple meaning of Gayatri mantra is May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path . To get the maximum benefit of Gayatri mantra, one need to chant the mantra for 108 times. However, for those who have a busy schedule can chant the mantra for 3, 9 or 18 repetitions. Please note that proper pronunciation of mantras is very important to positively affect the energy centers in the human body.
