Syed Ali Zaheer Cabinet Minister, whom you enquierd about expired long back. His son, Retired Air Vice Marshall Jafar Zaheer lives in Delhi with his wife. Syed Ali Zaheer was my father s first paternal cousin sharing same Grand father, Sir Wazeer Hasan, first Chief Justice of Oudh Cheif Court. My father S. Iqbal Zaheer lives at Gotmi Nagar, Lucknow.

Alongwith stalwarts like babu jagjivan Ram,Syed Ali Zaheer was a minister in the interim govt formed under prime minsitership of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru 1945-47 . Sunsequently, he was shifted to UP where he remained a cabinet minsiter for almost two decades. Lastly he was Chairman of UP pay Commission. Lucknow s traditional strife between Shias and Sunni owes a lot to the political rivalry between Chaudhry Kahliquzzan A sunni Muslim Legaue leader Syed Ali Zaheer Shia Leader of Congress both fought electiond for Lucknow Municipal Board. Khaliquzzan later migrated to pakistan and was last heard of as Governor of East Paksitan now Bangla Desh . Ali Zaheer s youger brother was Sajjad Zaheer, communist leader and a man of letters whose duaghter Nadira is married to Actor MP Raj Babbar. Nadira herself is an acclamine theatre personality in Mumbai. Ali Zaheer s mother Lady wazir Hasan and his wife Begum Ali Zaheer were prominently associated with progressive women movement among Mulsim women. Though, he was a lifetime Cingressman but briefly Ali Zaheer left Congress and joined babu jagjivan Ram s Congress for democracy CFD during the general elections of 1977. Ali Zaheer saheb remained the Prsident of Shia degree College management Committee and was succeeded by his son Kazim Zaheer. Ali Zaheer Saheb was burried in Daliganj Karbala, in close vacinity of Shia College.
