how does one differ to find out whether the tree will bear fruit or not. Or has one have to plant male and female tree for bearing fruit and better still how to differentiate between male and female or is it that both are necessary to bear fruits thanks antonio

I was lucky to work in Bellary, which is few miles from the old Vijayanagara capital.There was plenty of Borassus trees in the reserve forests.I was studying the rate of growth, fruit bearing capacity of female plants.No body could make out any difference between the male and f emale plants-neither the experienced staff nor old villagers.My efforts at books and my own botany knoledge was useless. Only when the trees flower and fruit we will be able to identify the male and the female trees. a.c.lakshmana.IF S Retd. camp New York.
