One of the highlights of the sculptures at Jagannath temple in Puri was that to prevent the decay of the temple sculpture from the salty sea winds, a thick plaster was applied on them. Though some of them have been discovered recently, others can be seen carved in the porch area. A cluster of interesting sculptures can be found behind the garuda pillar in the Bhogamandapa. On one side of the wall there are ten incarnations of Vishnu. On the other hand, several images of Hindu gods and goddesses are carved on the vimana. Narayana on the shoulder of Garuda, figure of Hanuman, Narasimha with Laxmi flanked by two dwarapalas, holding the branch of a tree, figures like Kaliya-damana are to be found on the vimanas as well.
