Why should not the ordinary spoken language be used in worship instead of Sanskrit? Will this not enable us to understand and follow these rites better?

May be what you say is true but in a multi-lingual country of India it is better to use a language which is common to all Indians. By using Sanskrit in worship or saying the mantaras, there is no discremination to any ethinic group. Further, I believe that Sanskrit is the language of the Hindu Gods and when mantras are said in that language it gives a sense of holiness to the prayer.

I agree your comment because that is absolutely right that no other languages must be used in prayers. As we all know that these all holy prayers are written by our saints and gurus. so whatever we want to follow must be followed as it is. We must try to interpret them as our own being. If people of multi-language country want to interpret and change the prayers, themn we are not following our vedic scriptures.
