I have heard that Navratri and Durga Puja are the most vibrant time of the year in Kolkata. Having heard much of the celebrations of Pujas in the `City of Joy`, I`m sure the excitement, eagerness and preparations for celebrations of Pujas knocking are already in full swing. Looking to explore the Pujas of Kolkata, I`am really interested to about the pre Puja preparations going on in the city.

Pujo in Kolkata is a month-long celebration for the Bengalis. Its the most vibrant and religiously significant time for them. They engage in shopping, buying new clothes for themselves and other stuff related with the religious offerings made to Maa Durga. As far as the clothes are concerned, the ethnic clothes shops are flooded with people as its the time of festivities and culture in the city. Areas like New Market in Esplanade, Bara Bazar stay heavily crowded at this time.

As Durga Puja arrives, the city wakes up to a whole new level of excitement with colourful lights lighting up the thinnest alleys, the sound of dhak and gong peeling through the night, mouth-watering delicacies available at almost every street corner.

Few of these Durga Puja pandals that I`ve heard of include those erected by the clubs in Chetla South Kolkata, the famous Deshapriya Park, Ahiritola, Shreebhumi near Lake Town. I want to know more such popular Pujas which vibrantly showcase creativity and concept to the hilt in Kolkata.

Now-a-days, every Durga puja pandal has become theme based. Small or big, every cultural association are concentrating on theme pujas and also there are competitions regarding this. Guys tell some places where Durga puja pandals are traditionally decorated?

What is the theme of Deshapriya Park this year? Last year it got so much hyped that police couldn`t control the massive crowd due to which it got closed. What will it be this year?

The North Kolkata`s `Bagbazar Sarbojanin` is the heart of traditional puja. It is Kolkata`s one of the oldest community puja pandal. Here every year the idol is made in the same style and no changes are made. It is said that the weight and height of the idols are also kept same. The `Ek Chala` protima (idol) is defined by its unique eyes and its crown. The Crown is specially made every year in artist town of Krishnanagar.
