According to Rushdie this is his most researched book. Salman Rushdie s The Enchantress of Florence is a brilliant tale where again we find him on familiar, East-meets-West ground, as a Florentine refugee turns up at the Mughal court infront of emperor Akbar and claims that he is a long lost relative of Akbar, born of an exiled Indian princess and an Italian from Florence. From here Rushdie wonderfully weaves the magic and the story moves between continents, the court of Akbar to Renaissance Florence whilst unifying once again all the elements of history, dream, fantasy and fable. Read it to feel the romance of history.
