There are many interesting historical facts about Agra fort that travellers often overlook engrossed in the magnificence of the structure. One being the octagonal tower of Shah Jahan where is breathed his last and it still offers a glimpse of Taj Mahal. Can someone please share more such facts of this architectural splendour?

The Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The building was once known as Badalgarh.

Agra Fort was the symbol of power strength and resilience of those times. The fort runs parallel to the Yamuna River and the moat till date remains connected to the river.

The massive fort complex has two gates the Delhi Gate and Lahore Gate that is also known as Amar Singh Gate named after Amar Singh Rathore who was a Rajput nobleman and a courtier of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

The Delhi Gate is not opened to public, since the Indian military is still using the northern portion of the Agra Fort. The Amar Singh Gate is opened for the tourists.
