In most of the mythological stories it is always said that gods used to live in the mountains. Even the sages of India prefer to meditate in the mountain peaks. This gives the mountains a special significance as the closest earthly places to God s abode. Why is it so?

The Himalayas are sacred for followers of 5 religions namely, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and the Bon tradition of Tibet. These religions revere the mountains as places of power where many of their most important sages and teachers have attained the heights of spiritual realization.
