The Agra Fort by the side of Yamuna River evokes a sense of awe and magnanimity. Do you think that it commands more respect and admiration under Mughal architecture than the Taj Mahal?

its impossible to say which of these two is better than the other. If Taj Mahal is the most captivating lesson that every body wants to read and enjoy, if it is the love story etched in marble then Agra Fort is that historical chapter in Mughal history that needs to be enjoyed lesson by lesson. Even today Agra Fort stands as a witness of the bygone centuries whilst Taj Mahal as the expression of the most humane quality, LOVE

i donno whether it commands more respect or not but While most people visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal, Agra, once the capital of all of India, has more to offer. and its indeed the Agra Fort. Less than 2 kilometers from the Taj Mahal, on the same river bank, agra fort stands as if the logo of Mughal history. As a matter of fact, the emperor Shah Jahan, who built the Taj, was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb in the Agra Fort where he had a view on the building erected for his deceased wife. Shah Jahan is said to have died in the Musamman Burj, a tower with a beautiful marble balcony. From there you probably have the best view on the Taj. Between the many pavilions, you find small well maintained gardens.
