The most common bird in India, I believe is the Crow also known as the Colombo Crow is a common Asian bird of the Crow family. It is between the Jackdaw and the Carrion Crow in size 40 cm in length but is relatively slimmer than either. The forehead, crown, throat and upper breast are a richly glossed black, whilst the neck and breast are a lighter grey-brown in colour. The wings, tail and legs are black. There are regional variations in the thickness of the bill and the depth of colour in areas of the plumage. The Crow is a native to India. Due to a human population explosion in the areas it inhabits, this species has also proportionately multiplies. Being an omnivorous scavenger has enabled it to thrive in such circumstances.

Informatively, during the British rule of India, these crows were exported to countries within the then British Empire to protect the agriculture crops from pests. They were also used to clean-up towns as they were good scavengers.

Sreyoshi is bringing back childhood memories when I walked with the great Dr.Salim Ali our world famous ornothologist, looking for a bird thought to be extinct The common Indian weaver bird or Finns Baya . Discovering this bird colony on the banks of a jheel, was a great triumph for the grandold man of avian lore. The other variety known as the striated weaver bird of course could be found around. Two common errors people make in India is when they call birds Parrots or Ravens in India.India does not have parrots, only Parakeets. You have the large Indian or Alexandrine Parakeet, the rose winged Parakeet, the black ringed Parakeet, the red headed Parakeet and the little lorikeet. The parrot is the only bird in the world with no wish bone. The bird normally reffered to as the raven in India is the jungle Crow, and the light grey one is the house Crow....PRINCEFREAKASSO
