It can be true in some of the cases but it is not true always. In other words now a days we rarely find any classical film with solid story like Kanoon, Mugal a azam or so. Todays film have masala mixed with humour, fighting, emotion etc.

well but i feel that female actors are pretty talented. Actors like Konkona Sen Sharma, Smriti Malhotra Irani are not chosen for their looks but are chosen because of their acting skill.

There was a time, when female actors were chosen, primarily in view of their catchy beauties, feminine delicacies and enchanting grace. From Devika Rani to Wahida Rahman, from Madhubala to Nutan, Meena Kumar to Vaijyantimala-all were blessed with bewitching looks. Of course, many of them had outstanding potentials in acting. The convention demanded our heroins to be blushful, docile, meek, mild and goody goody belles. In order to intensify their female chastity, the filmdom hit upon vamps as their sharp antithesis. Nadira, for instance, was used as one in Awara to augmant sobreity of Nargis. Naturally, our adored heroines did not come fleshy, but meticulously vested and veiled. A scene in Awara in early 50s projected Nargis in swimming costume, and that raised a storm in the tea-cup. But, with the passage of time, as the parallel cinema came to rock our perspectives, looks being esteemed as secondary, and skills as primary, we got Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Dipti Naval and host of others, who proved their worth by virtue of their talents. Later, they were equally acknowledged in the main-stream of cinema. Needless to say, film is a show business, and our audiences are, by and large, accustomed to watching pomps and gawdiness. Rigidity has been loosened and the film-makers tend to exploit and extract the fleshy-figured-females. All the same, it has become a proven fact, mere exposure of looks and figures will not hold good as far as sustainability in filmdom is concerned. With a view to existing in cine-dom, a Miss World or Miss Universe has to groom herself in rendering her acting talents. Priyanka Chopra has proved her worth in Fashion , so has Bipasha in Corporate . Kareena in Jaab we met . Kankana, who is neither gifted with looks nor figure, is pacing apace. Every day you have to improvise else you have to say good-bye. Now-a days, our outlook regarding the looks of female actors is changing. Unless the Kaifs, Sherawats or Jetleys do not find anything to improvise, they are destined to pass into oblivion before long.
