very true Mr. Aslam.. i just want to add here that the Atharva Veda is said to contain the secrets related to magic and medicine. Many of the spells described in this book are for casting out demons and evil spirits. now this is the base of exorcism .. casting off evil spirits. so i can very well say that the foundation of exorcism is deeply seated in Indian tradition. the Garuda Purana also talk about ghost- and death-related information

Driving out evil out of a body is carried out in different means in different regions of the nation. this is not named as Exorcism in Indian tradition. Exorcist is a rather anglicized version of Ojha. It is a very common sight in Rural India. to drive out the devil, moving ceremonies and powerful invocations are performed. If the devil is proven to be an adamant one and refuse to leave, his withdrawal may generally be hastened by the dynamic actions of a shoe or a broom on the shoulders of the possessed person, the Ojha uses most slanderous language during that time. After a while, the demon eventually loses his power and the victim being tortured till now posses a sullen look, gets angry, pants about after the slippering, and cries loudly. The soul leaves the body, but before leaving it usually utters words like, I go, I go . Then they ask the victim the name of the spirit and why he came there. He eventually narrates his death and asks them for an offering.

Yes, I agree with Jamal that Exorcism is definately present in all cultures and faiths. May be the terminology and the methods of exorcism is different but getting the bad spirit out of the human body exists in every culture.
