From the view of archaeology there is no proof for the life and rule of Lord Rama. But when we read the Ramkayana with the eyes of a scientist then we can find some informations which could lead us to the conclusion that Rama was a real King and ruled. First of all we have to take all the figures in Ramayana as humans not as gods or demons. This includes Ravana and Hanuman too. Secondly we have a South Indian version of the Ramayana where Ravana is the hero not Rama. So we can suppose that Ravana was a powerfull king of the South who had his main capital on Lanka. He was educated and well known on music and art as the Epics describes him. The Idea of the former scientist who thinks the hills of Vindhya was a problem for the ancient Indians to travel we can forget. The ancient Indians knew for sure how to travel from South to North without any problem. The descriptions of Valmiki on the time of ther marriage of the 3 brothers the way how they got their wives we can take for more or less correct because the poet could only wrote on what he knoes and what was in common use. The are much more points from which we may be conclude that Lord Rama and his vorfather were real kings. This include kings like Raghu too. All we have to keep in mid is that the poet give some colours and words to the story of Ramayana. The rich language of the epic the deep emotion and colourful description make this epic to one of the best texts ever written on the earth.

from the view of science and archaeology we have no proof for the historical life of Lord Rama. But when we read the Ramayana with the eyes of a scientist and not as a devotee then we can come to the conclusion that he was a historical king. A few thoughts 1. we have to take all the figures in the epic as humans not as gods or demons. We have a verion in Soth India where Ravanna is the hero not Rama. Ravana was high educated and had a deep knowledge of music and art. Heruled from a place in Lanka a large part of ancient India. The education of Rama and Ravana was on the leved which is desribed in the ancient scripts for kings. Hanuman was a king an in friendship to Rama. 2. the marriage of the 3 brothers was done after the rules and habit of their time the rituals and philosophical thoughts mentioned in the Epic we find in the ancient scripts beside Ramayana. So all of them were in commen use. This and much more pionts can lead to the conclusion that Rama and also his ancestors were historical persons. The big problem is to date their lifetimes. This include the lifetime of Raghu and of Ravana too. Valmiki could only tell what he saw knew and what was in common use at his time. Valmiki took poetical freedom a colourful and rich language to tell this story which makes this epic to one of the greates works ever written. But all of this is not a undoubtful proof for the historical likfe of Rama.

It is completely a mythological epic written by Valmiki. But the places are true and still existing.
